about

A whiz kid on the keys from an early age, Arthur Kay had mastered Ray Manzarek's organ solo on "Light My Fire" by the age of 8, and according to legend, was reported being "over" Rick Wakeman's work on “Tales from Topographic Oceans” by the age of 13. Growing up in the hipster city of Oslo, at a time when skinny dudes with guitars ruled, Arthur vowed to make Moogs hip again by the time he was 30. Having accomplished that feat, the next goal is to funk Norway up with his self-titled debut EP.

With styles ranging from funk bangers to Latin American psychedelia to more low-key ethereal moods, this collection of songs will make you think of legends like Todd Rundgren and Marcos Valle one moment, and contemporaries like James Blake and Thundercat the next. The lead single “Holiday Pay” celebrates the great Norwegian invention of "holiday pay" – your employer is required by law to pay you a certain percentage of last year's wages as holiday pay every summer.

Channelling everything from Jon Lord and Dr. John-type organ action in indie rock band The Switch, to carrying the torch for fans of galactic jazz music as the front man of Dr. Kay and His Interstellar Tone Scientists, Arthur Kay has been a prominent figure on the Oslo music scene for a decade. A sought-after musician, his impressive versatility is further validated through his touring commitments with acclaimed Norwegian rapper Ivan Ave, and instrumental psychedelics Orions Belte.
